TE Araroa, a whole day on re-planning. There have been the constant weather alerts for last few weeks, and with all the uncertainty with the Alpine regions, I’ve opted for a non alpine track to ensure a definite start date for TA. We plan to do a few hikes for track fitness around the west coast and then meet back into St Arnand’s or Boyle (hopefully around xmas day the weather would have settled). Current severe weather warnings for snow to 400metres in the South Island were of a big concern and logical for me to reevaluate. By adapting, this gives me definate start date, allows me to plan drop boxes and clears my head of all the what if’s! My biggest fear is being on the news or having to use my Garmin PLB. Clear head now, if we get time we can go back to the Ranges and do them in more favourable conditions without risk of avalanches! Happy trails! Not long to go.
